The Artist

I am Krystle Maame Serwaa Ababio, but many call me Krystle or Nyame Serwaa—a name that wasn’t given to me at birth, but one that found me along the way. A friend once called me that, laughing at my outlandish nature, my flair for the dramatic, my love for all things extra. The name stuck because, in many ways, it speaks to the essence of who I am—multifaceted, expressive, and deeply intentional. Like God. Not that I am Him, but I see reflections of His nature in myself.

I once asked God for something that would set me apart in the fashion world. Something fresh. Because while I know that there is nothing new under the sun, I also know that His creativity is limitless—no two people are the same, no fingerprint identical. That’s what I wanted: a distinct voice in fashion, a signature that felt deeply personal yet universally resonant. And every day, I see that prayer answered through the way I create.

Fashion found me before I fully understood it. Fourteen years ago, I started Sugarkane, my bridal and evening wear brand, without any formal training—just a deep desire to bring beauty into the world. In 2018, I took a summer course at Central Saint Martins, where I learned to design from everyday things that captivated me. That same year, I completed my undergrad at Ashesi University, expanding my worldview in ways that continue to shape me.

Vexxels, however, was born from something deeper. It was my return to faith, my intimate reconnection with God after years of searching. I wanted to dress with more intentionality—to wear garments that reflected my spirit, my identity, my love for Him. Fashion, for me, became an act of worship. The Genesis collection was the beginning of that journey. I worked with Kente, hand-dyed and painted fabrics, rich cottons, and crepe—each piece an exploration of my newfound purpose. Women lived in those clothes, but more importantly, those clothes lived in them—validating a signature, an expression, a truth.

Today, my work is for women like me—women who are balanced yet evolving, grounded yet ever-growing. Women who live through faith, intentionality, and community. Women who know they are vessels—carrying something bigger than themselves.

This is who I am. This is what I create.
